Sub-block catch caps are used to refine spatial management of the commercial abalone fishery.
Fishing effort needs to be distributed across the fishery to reduce the possibility of localised overfishing.
At times, sub-blocks of the commercial abalone fishery are closed to control the total amount of abalone harvested in an area in the interest of resource sustainability.
Go to Public Notices page to view all current abalone fishery notices.
Sub-blocks in the fishery may be closed to fishing for biosecurity reasons. To view any such closures in place at present see Harvest Area Status.
