New catch record and quota docket books

Licence holders and supervisors with a Fishing Licence (Rock Lobster) entitlement have been sent the new combined Commercial Rock Lobster Catch Record and Quota Docket Book and the revised Commercial Rock Lobster and Giant Crab Direct Sales Quota Docket Book.

These new books have replaced:

  • the Rock Lobster Catch Record Book,

  • the Commercial Rock Lobster and Giant Crab Direct Sales Quota Docket Book.

When to start using the new books

  • Your first trip for the new quota year starting 1 March 2021 onwards.

Post these to NRE Tas in the reply paid envelope provided.

Frequently asked questions

Why have the Catch Record and the Quota Docket Books been combined?

The combined Commercial Rock Lobster Catch Record and Quota Docket Book will simplify paperwork for fishers, deliver catch and effort data faster to IMAS and NRE Tas and streamline dockets in a step toward electronic reporting. A number of issues with the old books often resulted in excess paperwork between NRE Tas and the fisher.  An earlier version of the new docket book was “road tested” by industry volunteers and feedback from the trial has been incorporated.

Do I need to complete a nil return if I haven’t fished

  • Rock lobster: No – if there is no fishing event, there is no return needed.
  • Scalefish: Yes – use your Commercial Catch, Effort and Disposal Return to record your nil return.

What does the related docket number mean?

This box is used to link dockets that relate to each other. For example, if you have run out of rows on your current docket (docket no. 1012345) and you are still fishing, write the docket number from the next docket (docket no. 1012346) on the first docket in the Related Docket No. box.

If I'm selling my whole catch by direct sale, when do I send in the docket?

Send in the commercial rock lobster catch record and quota docket when you have sold all your catch or if you have run out of lines on the current docket.

Make sure you send in the yellow sheet with the pink sheet.

What happens if I come into port but do not unload?

  • Coming into port with all pots onboard If you come into port and do not unload, you must write the end date of the trip in the next available row, then write the start date for you next trip on the following row and continue to record your catch for your next trip. You will send the return into NRE Tas when you either unload to a processor, or sell your catch by direct sale.
  • Coming into port with pots still in the water – The fishing trip is considered to be ongoing if you come into port and do not unload. Continue to record your catch on the same docket.

When completing multiple trips on the one docket, which pre-fishing report do I record?

Only record the most recent pre-fishing report number on the Commercial Rock Lobster Catch Record and Quota Docket at the time of completing Part A.

Where and how do I record rock lobster taken for personal use?

Rock lobster taken for personal use must be recorded on the day it was kept for personal use and must be deducted from the running total.
  • Write the number of rock lobster taken for personal use in the column called No. of P-Use or D-Sales, and
  • Deduct the number of rock lobster taken for personal use in the column called Running Total.
Note: Do not record your personal use as a total at the end of the trip.
