Public comment has now closed on proposed amendments to the Fisheries (General and Fees) Regulations 2016 that were released on 9 August 2022.
The aims of the proposed alterations are:
- increases to size limits in the commercial blacklip abalone fishery;
- extending the period a management plan may be be increased from 12 to 24 months;
- requiring a person transporting fish on behalf of the holder of a fish processing licence or handling licence to keep records; and
- in the commercial scallop fishery, regarding Schedule 1, Part 1 Fishing licences, 9 Fishing licence scallop, a) Renewal, (ii) fixed component, the proposed amendment is to alter the fixed component from a flat 8 fee units per scallop quota unit to a two tiered system based on scallop total allowable catch.
