The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS)
published research in November which confirmed a sizeable population of Australian sardine in Tasmanian and Bass Strait waters, large enough to sustain a commercial fishery.
NRE Tas has since produced
development guidelines, with principles that will ensure a potential sardine fishery would be environmentally sustainable, have best-practice governance, and deliver long-term benefits for Tasmanians.
Lead IMAS Researcher Tim Ward, along with NRE Tas Fisheries Managers, will be hosting these community information sessions around Tassie for the public between February 18-26. It's an opportunity to learn more about the recent findings and development guidelines, and ask any questions you may have.
