The inaugural Fishing Hub at this year's Agfest Field Days was an outstanding success.
For the first time, NRE Sea Fishing were joined by our partners at the Inland Fisheries Service, the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, TARFish and Ozfish.
The hands-on, interactive fishing exhibits such as filleting and ageing demos, live lobster, fighting a fish on the simulators and the kid's angling ponds saw thousands of patrons of all ages getting involved in fish for the future activities.
Our Fishery managers fielded hundreds of questions and had great discussions with fishers and the wider community on a range of topics. These included the deployment of artificial reefs and fish aggregating devices, the new Fisheries website and Better Fishing Grants. We also discussed concerns about some of our fisheries under pressure such as flathead, calamari and rock lobster.
Thanks to everyone who visited our Agfest site - it's a great opportunity for us to hear the views of fishers and inform the community about sustainable fishing. We'd also like to thank our staff and Fishcare Volunteers whose hard work made the site possible and to Rural Youth Tasmania for their hard work and organisation of this year's event.
See you next May for Agfest 2023!
