The latest independent scientific report on Australian sardine in Tasmania has been published. Based on a comprehensive survey of Tasmanian and Bass Strait waters conducted by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), a sizeable population of Australian Sardine that could sustain a commercial fishery was confirmed. The Tasmanian Government has released development guidelines and a vision for a sardine fishery.
