The spawning squid and calamari closure dates have been announced for 2022.
North Coast
The squid and calamari fisheries will be closed to recreational and commercial fishing on the north coast from 23 September - 31 October inclusive, to protect spawning calamari. During the closure, taking or possessing calamari and other squid is prohibited in the closed area.
The extra week closure in September adds additional protection while longer term management arrangements are progressed.
Squid that has been bought commercially can be used for bait.
East Coast
Dates are unchanged for the annual squid and calamari closure on the upper south East Coast including Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage, from 15 October - 14 November inclusive.
