Local fishing facts
- Australian salmon, flathead and whiting are commonly caught in Frederick henry, Norfolk and Blackman Bays. Local jetties are popular for catches of mackerel and wrasse.
- From a boat you can also catch tiger flathead, striped trumpeter, tuna, ocean perch, jackass morwong, elephantfish, cod, leatherjacket, wrasse, barracouta, gurnard, mako shark, baitfish, yellowtail kingfish and snapper.
- Frederick Henry, Norfolk and Blackman Bays are
Shark Refuge Areas. No taking of sharks, skates or rays other than elephantfish.
- Maori octopus congregate in Eaglehawk Bay where they can be caught recreationally.
- Pirates Bay on the Tasman Peninsula is a gateway to internationally recognised gamefishing waters where bluefin tuna, mako shark and swordfish can be caught. Fishing charters are available.
