Recreational Sea Fishing Licences 1 Nov 21 - 31 Oct 22

  • ​​​​​​You need a licence for the types of sea fishing specified below.  You don't need a licence for rod and line fishing in marine waters in Tasmania - more information.

  • Licences for the current year, 2021-22 expire on 31 October 2022. Licences for 2022-23 season will go on sale from 17 October 2022. 


Buy or renew sea fishing licence

  • The licensing year is 1 November 2021 - 31 October 2022.  Licences are valid from the date of purchase until 31 October 2022. Short term licences are not available.
  • You aren't required to have your licence with you when you fish but can carry a digital copy or your receipt ​if you wish. Plastic licence cards are no longer issued.

Sea fishing licence types

Rock Lobster Pot, Ring or Dive
​​Not available to children under 10 years.  Check season dates, biotoxin status, rules and catch limits before you buy.

Refunds are not available if you can't fish in some areas due to biotoxin or season closures.

Abalone

Not available to children under 10 years. Check abalone rules and catch limits.

Scallop

Not available to children under 10 years. Check season dates, rules and catch limits.

Graball Net

Not available to children under 10 years. Check which nets are allowed and how to mark them.

Mullet Net

Not available to children under 10 years. Check which nets are allowed and how to mark them.

Beach Seine Net

Check which nets are allowed and how to mark them.

Set Line

Not available to children under 10 years. Information about setlines and how to mark them and area restrictions.
Aboriginal Fishing ​Aboriginal fishers are exempt from holding a licence. More information.

Licence fees

Standard Licence:
$57.75 - first licence (base fee $49.50 plus $8.25 for first licence). Each additional licence type - $8.25.​
Concession Licence: Commonwealth Pension, DVA Concession, Government Seniors card holders and persons under 16.$33.00 - first licence (base fee $24.75 plus $8.25 for first licence). Each additional licence type - $8.25.
(Health Care Card holders are not eligible)
Additional Licence:$8.25 - add a licence type plus cost of the new licence type.
Special Rock Lobster Licence:
(increased possession limit for 14 days)
$49.50 - must hold a recreational rock lobster licence. Western Region only.   See information and conditions.
