Central East Coast-Bicheno Area

Restrictions on netting and the use of set lines apply in some areas around Tasmania, mainly in rivers and estuaries to protect vulnerable species or sensitive habitats. Check for any restrictions in your area before you go fishing.


Scamander River

Upstream from and within 200 metres of the mouth to the downstream side of the A3 road bridge.

Saltwater Inlet

Douglas River

Upstream from the mouth to the A3 road bridge.

Waubs Bay

Waters enclosed to the north of an imaginary straight line from the southernmost point of Governor Island west to the Tasmanian mainland, to the west of a second imaginary straight line from the northernmost point of Governor Island to the southernmost point of Diamond Island, and to the south of a third imaginary straight line from the westernmost point of Diamond Island to the northern end of Redbill Beach.

Reserves and Research Areas

Governor Island Marine Nature Reserve: extending 400 m eastward from the shoreline of Governor Island, this 50-hectare reserve includes the island itself and Alligator Rock. No fishing or setting of fishing gear is allowed. Click here for a map of this area.

Divers should note that swimming in the Waubs Gulch area can be dangerous because of the heavy use of this area by vessels.
