Wild Shellfish Alert - Do not eat wild shellfish from areas in and around Spring Bay and the Mercury Passage in South East Tasmania.
A small sea snail known for attaching firmly to rocks. The shell is oval shaped and quite thick with radiating ribs. It is a cream to brown colour with an orange margin. Commonly found around Tasmania. Before the taking of this species was prohibited, it was sometimes used as bait by recreational fishers.
Protected species. Do not take! If you encounter or accidentally catch a protected species, you must return it to where you found it regardless of whether it is dead or alive.Aboriginals engaged in Aboriginal fishing may take and possess limpets.
